The new Barracuda XT hard drive from Seagate offers customers a compelling new storage choice for high-capacity, high-performance computing solutions. Unlike other available 3TB or 2TB solutions that run at 5,400- or 5,900-RPM speeds, the new Barracuda XT drive is built on a full-speed, 7,200-RPM, four-disc platform. Further turbocharged with a huge 64-MB cache and the industry’s new, high-performance SATA 6-Gb/s interface, the Barracuda XT drive is destined to set a new standard for high-speed desktop performance.

Compatibility

Barracuda XT hard drives feature the industry’s newest high-speed SATA interface: SATA 6 Gb/s. This provides customers the opportunity to maximise performance as the industry develops controllers, applications and associated archi- tectures to fully exploit this increased interface speed. In addition, Barracuda XT drives are also fully compatible with legacy SATA 1.5-Gb/s and SATA 3-Gb/s interfaces, giving customers a future- proof hard drive with full backward compatibility.
